The idea
Robotics for a food system that doesn't need to poison the ground to feed us
Ekobot was built around a simple frustration: weeding is one of the most time and labour intensive jobs in agriculture, and the usual shortcut is to spray it away. Only a small fraction of any herbicide applied actually reaches the weed it's meant for. The rest ends up in the soil, the water table, and the surrounding environment, an economic loss as much as an ecological one.

That's the founding idea behind Ekobot AB, a Swedish company based in Västerås, listed on Nasdaq First North Growth Market. Instead of asking farmers to choose between clean fields and clean soil, Ekobot builds a robot precise enough to tell a weed from a crop and pull it out mechanically, no chemicals required.
The company's vision is to give agriculture a genuine long-term alternative to chemical spraying, for crops grown for human consumption specifically, where the stakes of getting it wrong are highest. It's a slower, more deliberate approach to automation: not replacing the farmer, but replacing the part of the job that never needed to involve poison in the first place.

How it works
See the weed, pull the weed, leave the crop
AI weed recognition
An onboard camera system reads every row in real time, telling the crop apart from the weeds growing around it, plant by plant, even in a crop as fiddly to identify as onion.
Patented mechanical weeding
Instead of spraying, mechanical fingers reach in and physically remove weeds around each plant, and hoeing elements clear the space between rows. No chemicals touch the field.
Fully electric, autonomous
Runs on swappable batteries for a full working day in the field, navigating and working the rows on its own, with someone able to check in remotely rather than walk every row by hand.
